Sightsavers joins Commit to Data campaign

We’re excited to be part of the UN’s World Data Forum campaign, which calls for data to be used to help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

What is the Commit to Data campaign?

The Commit to Data campaign calls for organisations across the world to commit to making data a driving force to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

  • The campaign was launched in the run-up to the UN World Data Forum, which takes place in Medellín, Colombia on 12-15 November 2024.
  • The forum will bring together global governments, civil society, the private sector and many others to strengthen partnerships, encourage innovation and mobilise high-level political and financial support for data.
  • The commitments made will be discussed at the forum, helping to shape its outcomes to accelerate action for the Sustainable Development Goals.

Why has Sightsavers joined the campaign?

WW

Around the world, there's a lack of accurate data on disability. This leaves people at risk of exclusion when they're not counted.

Sightsavers works with partners to advance disability-inclusive data. We want everyone to be counted, so no one is left behind.

Together, we can use data to identify and tackle inequalities worldwide, making sure everyone is able to access their human rights.

Our commitments for the next three years

Strengthening engagement with communities in the collection and use of inclusive data

We’ll continue ensuring that the people and communities we work with are actively involved in inclusive data processes and decisions that affect them.

See how our work to advance the localisation of inclusive data has improved access to services for people with disabilities by watching our video.

Sharing Sightsavers’ knowledge and learning about inclusive data

We will continue sharing our knowledge and learning with our partners, as we all work together to enhance inclusive data.

We recently launched the Sightsavers Inclusive Data Network (SIDN), a platform for knowledge sharing and learning on inclusive data with our partners.

Increasing collaboration with partners to advocate for inclusive data

We will continue working with the disability movement and development partners to advocate for disability-inclusive data to become standard practice.

See how our partnerships have already made an impact in Pakistan and Kenya.

Pakistan

We’re part of the Community Based Inclusive Development Network, and have supported the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics to integrate the Washington Group questions into the 2023 census. This will ensure people with disabilities are heard, and enable the government to develop informed programmes.

Kenya

Alongside partners, we supported the government to develop Kenya’s first inclusive data action plan. We’re continuing to collaborate with the government as co-chairs of a disability interagency coordinating committee to support Kenya’s commitments to disability-inclusive data and improve monitoring and accountability.
