Meet our fundraisers: Oliver Stephens

Aideen and Oliver in Ireland with fundraising cheque for €1,657.
Oliver with Sightsavers' Aideen Kiernan.

We’re singing the praises of Oliver Stephens from County Wexford, who organised a community gala concert in aid of Sightsavers in March 2019.

Big-hearted Oliver hosted the concert at Shamrock Hall in Kilanerin, Gorey, and it attracted plenty of local talent, with volunteers giving up their time to support Sightsavers. Oliver was MC for the evening and his efforts raised €1,657 to support our work.

Performers on the night included the McGonigle sisters, Perfect Friction, Cliodhna O’Connell, the Moynihan brothers, the Stephens brothers and Cathal Byrne. Thank you to all who gave up their time to change the lives of so many in the countries where we work.

We had the chance to travel to Gorey to meet Oliver and express our gratitude for choosing Sightsavers. The money  he raised is enough to provide screening in six communities for a range of eye conditions, fund trachoma operations for 33 children at risk of permanently going blind, or protect and treat more than 3,249 people against this painful disease. What an incredible gift to have given!

We’re so grateful to Oliver for choosing Sightsavers: he devoted his time and put so much hard work into organising the event, and sought no acknowledgement. You’ve done something really special to save sight and change lives: we really can’t thank you enough.
