The Lions Sight 
Savers Trust

The Lions Sight Savers Trust has raised more than
£3.9 million for Sightsavers since 1982.

Formed by Lions clubs in the UK, the trust raises money for Sightsavers’ work in Africa and Asia, ensuring that thousands of people can access vital eye health services to protect and restore their sight.

Lions Clubs International is a global network of Lions clubs from across the UK whose volunteer members work together to improve their communities and the wider world. Lions’ global causes include vision, hunger and diabetes, which align with Sightsavers’ work to protect sight, eliminate neglected tropical diseases and advocate for the rights of people with disabilities.

In 1925 Helen Keller, who was a deafblind advocate for people with disabilities, called on Lions members to be “knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness”. Since then, Lions has supported programmes that prevent avoidable blindness. The Lions Sight Savers Trust demonstrates how Lions members continue to meet Helen’s challenge.

Over the last few years, two trustees have seen Sightsavers’ work in action in Cameroon and Bhopal, India, witnessing first-hand the sight-saving operations and eye health treatments that their fundraising work supports.

Thanks to Lions Sight Savers Trust, Sightsavers has been able to save, protect and restore the sight of more than 130,000 people, including adults, children and people with disabilities.
