What is Giving Tuesday?

3 December 2024 is Giving Tuesday, the international day of giving. Today, a generous group of donors will be matching donations, which means your gift can be doubled and go even further.

By donating on Giving Tuesday 2024, you can help us reach more families like Rudia’s (pictured above). When Rudia married her husband, she became a caring guardian for her two nephews, Joseph and Ezekiel. Both boys had cataracts and Rudia was especially worried about Joseph, who was 10 and had stopped going to school because of his eye problems.

In Tanzania, many communities live long distances from hospitals and struggle to access vital health care. Despite cataracts being treatable with a straight-forward operation, they continue to cause blindness in Tanzania. The generosity of supporters like you helped make sure Joseph, Ezekiel and Rudia’s baby Ebenezeri received sight-saving cataract operations.

However, there are children who still urgently need treatment before it becomes too late to restore their sight.

Jason has worked with Sightsavers for a number of years, taking hundreds of photos of our work in action. In the video, he shares some of his stories and personal experience of dealing with the threat of sight loss due to cataracts.
