Eye health
Worldwide, 1.1 billion people have a visual impairment that could be treated or prevented.
Refractive error
Uncorrected refractive error is the world’s leading cause of vision impairment. To tackle it, we help to train eye health staff so they can find, test and treat people with low vision.

Cataracts
Cataracts are the leading cause of blindness worldwide. Our work ensures people can get eye examinations and referrals, as well as access to straightforward cataract surgery.

Disease elimination
We help to treat, prevent and eliminate five debilitating neglected tropical diseases that affect more than a billion people.
Trachoma
More than 100 million people are at risk of blindness from infectious trachoma. We help to distribute medication, provide surgery and educate communities about good hygiene.

Lymphatic filariasis
This disease causes debilitating pain and swelling, affecting 120 million people. We help to provide treatments, train volunteers and, with partners, ensure people can access clean water to ease their symptoms.

River blindness
More than 20 million people have this parasitic infection. Most of our work to combat it takes place in West Africa, where the disease is most prevalent.

Intestinal worms
1.5 billion people are infected with intestinal worms. We train volunteers to distribute medication to prevent the disease.

Schistosomiasis
This disease is caused by parasites released by freshwater snails. Our treatment programmes target children and at-risk adults, such as fishermen.
